Sony Pictures has formalized the development of an animated film adaptation dedicated to Bloodborne, the cult title that redefined gothic-horror imagery on consoles. The project will be characterized by a mature approach, confirmed by the VM14 classification, necessary to faithfully transpose the violent and dark atmospheres that made the original video game famous. The president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, Sanford Panitch, stated that the primary objective remains the preservation of the authentic spirit of the production, guaranteeing an experience in line with the expectations of fans.
The making of the feature film will see the involvement of PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation, with the participation of Sean McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye and YouTuber with 31 million subscribers, in the role of co-producer. The financing will be managed by Sony Pictures together with Lyrical Media, the parent company of the animation studio. This synergy between different production companies aims to consolidate Sony’s path in transforming its videogame intellectual properties into products for the big screen, relying on figures who have a profound knowledge of the source material.
Originally released on PlayStation 4 on March 24, 2015, Bloodborne represents one of the creative pinnacles of FromSoftware and the Sony Interactive Entertainment division. The work was able to win over the public thanks to a punitive combat system and a markedly Victorian artistic direction. Over ten years after its debut, the announcement of an animated film marks a significant transition for a franchise which, despite having remained linked to a single videogame chapter, continues to exert a strong influence on the collective imagination of gamers around the world.
