Processors also face shortages and price increases: Intel and AMD foresee an increase of between 8 and 10%

Processor manufacturers such as Intel and AMD foresee a price increase of between 8 and 10 percent for CPUs during the third quarter of this year, as a result of a shortage situation that could last until 2027, adding to that of RAM.

The technology sector is experiencing a shortage of RAM that mainly affects consumption and is forcing product prices to rise, as some manufacturers have already anticipated, who have warned that this situation will last for the next few years, with the forecast that only 60 percent of demand will be covered by the end of 2027.

This is due, in part, to the high demand for artificial intelligence (AI), which is causing technology companies to prioritize the manufacturing and supply of high-performance memory for data centers, instead of RAM for consumption.

However, this reality does not exclusively affect memories, but the central processing unit (CPU) sector is also facing shortages and, as a consequence, is also experiencing a price increase.

Specifically, original design manufacturers (ODMs) have noted that consumer CPUs have already experienced price increases of between 5 to 10 percent since last March. The same has happened with CPUs focused on use in servers, which have increased their price from 10 to 20 percent.

This has been reported by the Taiwanese media Commercial Times (CTEE), according to statements from sources related to supply chains, who have also indicated that international manufacturers such as Intel and AMD, foresee new price increases during the third quarter of this year. According to what they have anticipated, the price of CPUs will increase by an additional 8 to 10 percent.

Intel already introduced a price adjustment in March for PC CPUs, which followed another adjustment for server CPUs. In the case of AMD, it is expected to carry out two increases this year, one in the second quarter and another in the third, with a cumulative increase of between 17 and 7 percent.

All of this, as the aforementioned media has clarified, is a consequence of the strong demand for technological components that currently exists, together with limited production capacity. In a framework in which it leads the expansion of infrastructure for AI and, therefore, more servers are needed.

Thus, related sources have highlighted how the high concentration of production capacity for advanced manufacturing processes influences, which cannot respond to this high demand. “Currently, CPUs continue to suffer from a serious supply shortage,” they have assured from the supply chains.

In fact, CTEE has pointed out that the manufacturing giant TSMC is increasing the production capacity of CPU components with 3-nanometer process technology, in relation to the increase in demand, given that the latest generation CPUs from Intel and AMD, in addition to Nvidia’s upcoming Vera CPU, use this 3-nanometer process.

With all this, it is expected that the processor sector will continue to face high demand and price increases during this year 2026, even extending to next year 2027, depending on production capacity.
