Fire alarms disable a series of smart car locks in Hanoi

On the afternoon of April 29, the Radio Frequency Department, Ministry of Science and Technology said it had successfully handled a radio interference case affecting smart key devices (smartkeys) of cars and motorbikes in Yen Hoa ward, Hanoi.

Previously, at about 4:00 p.m. on the same day, the Department’s fanpage received feedback from people about the phenomenon of a series of motorbikes and cars around the area of ​​Trung Yen 14 Street, Yen Hoa Ward, not being able to receive signals from smart keys. The incident occurred right before the April 30 – May 1 holiday, making many people worried and having difficulty moving.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Radio Frequency Center Region I sent a technical team to the scene to measure and locate the source of interference. Using specialized equipment, technicians determined that the source of interference came from the fire alarm at a foreign language center on Tham Tam street, Yen Hoa ward. Due to technical problems, this device continuously emits radiation on the frequency 434.0125 MHz. This frequency is close to the operating frequency range of many popular smartkeys on the market, leading to interference, making the car receiver unable to recognize the signal from the key.

By 6:22 p.m., the working group had thoroughly handled the above interference situation, returning the operation of remote control devices in the area to normal. This is one of the fastest handled cases from the Radio Frequency Department, when the time from receipt of notification to completion of processing was less than three hours.

Recently, the Radio Frequency Department has also repeatedly detected and handled problems related to electronic devices having problems and emitting signals that coincide with the smartkey’s frequency. These sources of interference often come from faulty wireless devices such as vibrators in coffee shops, rolling door keys, and water pump switches. Most of these are non-compliant devices, purchased by people from sources floating on the market.

To ensure frequency safety and avoid similar incidents, the Radio Frequency Department recommends that people and organizations should only buy and use radio wave application equipment of clear origin, certified, announced, and with a mark of conformity according to current regulations. When encountering similar problems, you should report them to the Department for timely handling.
