OpenAI announces its own cyber defense program following Anthropic’s Glasswing project

OpenAI has announced Daybreak, a cyber defense initiative for the technology industry which aims to anticipate risks and promote ‘software resilient by design, based on the GPT-5 and GPT 5 Cyber ​​models.

The technology firm aims to “accelerate cyber defense and ensure the continued security of software”, both from industry partners and governments, with which it will work to progressively launch Daybreak.

This initiative will allow organizations’ cybersecurity managers to review the code of their systems, validate security patches, detect threats, and guide remediation response in daily development.

The objective is drive resilient software by designthat is, making “the software more resistant from the beginning” so that it can face threats, surpassing the strategy that is based on the detection and correction of vulnerabilities.

To do this, Daybreak combines the most recent OpenAI models (GPT-5 y GPT 5 Cyber) and the Codex agent capabilitiesto which is added the collaboration of industry partners, as explained in a statement.

The initiative also addresses the fact that artificial intelligence capabilities used for cyber defense can also be used for malicious purposes. Therefore, “it combines greater defensive capacity with trust, verification, proportional security measures and accountability,” as detailed by OpenAI.

At the beginning of April, Anthropic announced Proyecto Glasswinga cybersecurity initiative that brings together technology companies such as Amazon Web Services, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Nvidia, to protect “the world’s most critical software”“, based on its Claude Mythos model, capable of identifying high severity vulnerabilities in all major operating systems and web browsers.
