The procedure is simple. The user asks Alexa for a podcast on the desired topic, whether it’s about the history of Rome, a new hobby or music releases. The artificial intelligence then collects the information and offers the user a summary of the topics it plans to cover. Users can adjust the length and direction of the episode before it is generated. When the plan is confirmed, Alexa creates a recording with two AI-generated presenter voices in a conversational format. The finished episode arrives as a notification on the user’s Echo device and is saved in the Alexa app for later listening.

Content based on hundreds of verified sources

To ensure accuracy, Amazon has partnered with more than 200 news outlets. Among them are agencies such as Associated Press and Reuters and media outlets such as The Washington Post, Time and Forbes. This approach differentiates Amazon’s service from competing tools like Google’s NotebookLM, which requires users to load the sources themselves. Alexa, on the other hand, independently researches the topic using a network of verified partners, making the process much simpler for the user.

Alexa is transforming from assistant to creator

The introduction of this feature marks a strategic shift for Amazon, transforming Alexa from an assistant that responds to commands to a platform that creates content. Instead of just finding and playing existing podcasts, Alexa now becomes their author. The function is part of the Alexa+ service, which is available at no additional charge to Amazon Prime members, while for other users the price is $19.99 per month.
