Will train digital skills for more than 7.2 million farmers

At least 70% of farmer members across the country will be equipped with digital knowledge and skills in the 2026-2031 term, equivalent to more than 7.2 million people.

The information was given at the press conference announcing the results of the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, term 2026-2031, on the afternoon of June 8.

According to the Congress Resolution, this is one of 11 specific indicators approved to serve as a basis for evaluating the Association’s performance in the new term. Along with the goal of 70% of members being equipped with digital knowledge and skills, the Congress also set a goal of over 95% of member households having knowledge and correct practice of food safety. At the same time, digital transformation and improving digital skills for farmers is identified as one of four breakthrough tasks of the entire term.

Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, said farmers are one of the groups facing the most difficulties in the digital transformation process due to limited skills and access to technology. The Association has implemented a digital skills support program for farmers many years ago, including coordination with technology businesses to guide people in using smartphones and digital platforms.

“Currently, almost 100% of farmers use smartphones, but the problem is how to exploit the smart features of the device for production and business. Through surveys, many people have smartphones but mainly use entertainment applications and social networks, and have not taken advantage of digital technology to search for technical information, markets or input materials,” Mr. Doan said.

According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, association levels are being assigned the task of directly guiding members from the most basic skills such as searching for information on the Internet, accessing technical production knowledge, understanding the market, to using digital applications to serve agricultural economic activities.

One of the platforms deployed by the Association is the Vietnamese Farmers application. After more than two years of operation, the application has attracted about 4.3 million members. In the coming time, the Association will improve the quality of training so that farmers can exploit digital services, digital transactions and production utilities on the platform.

Mr. Doan also said that the Association is researching the establishment of “digital farmer” groups at the grassroots to support members in accessing technology, while integrating instructions on how to use digital platforms into the process of implementing the Association’s programs and projects.

The Association has also implemented digital skills support programs for farmers many years ago, including coordinating with technology businesses to guide people in using smartphones and digital platforms.
