Fox announced the full acquisition of Roku for a total value of 22 billion dollars. The move aims to vertically integrate the publishing group’s multimedia content with the infrastructural penetration of the tech company, known for its television operating systems and streaming devices present in over 100 million homes globally. The deal, which is expected to close in the first half of 2027 subject to approval from U.S. regulators, aims to create the third-largest television operator in the United States by audience share.
Joining forces will mean unprecedented visibility for Fox networks and the free Tubi service directly on the home screens of Roku devices. Although the operation does not envisage closing the system towards a proprietary and exclusive ecosystem, company leaders have confirmed that the main promotional spaces on Roku’s software will favor Fox properties, with immediate integration, for example, of the Fox Sports section within the areas dedicated to sporting events.
Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch defined the operation as the natural evolution of a long-term strategy aimed at connecting the live events portfolio with the most widespread distribution platform in the American market. For his part, Roku founder Anthony Wood will retain leadership of the division and join Fox’s board of directors, ensuring the continuity of an open and compatible model with third-party commercial partners, balancing internal promotion with the presence of rival services already hosted on the system.
