Sony clarifies that it will continue to manufacture PlayStation game discs released before 2028 at the request of the studios

Sony has specified that, despite putting an end to the launch of new PlayStation video games in physical format from January 2028, will continue producing albums of titles already published before that date for developers and publishers who request them, although with changes in production capacity.

The company announced the end of physical games for PlayStation consoles last week, when it shared that, as of January of the year 2028video games will become be released exclusively in digital format.

At that time, Sony already detailed that the decision to discontinue the production of physical discs It would only affect new video games. Therefore, he assured that games released before 2028 will continue to be available in the disc format.

The video game company has now clarified that will continue to produce physical discs for developers and publishers who request itas long as they are titles released for PlayStation before the aforementioned date.

It is worth mentioning that, as recently shared by the Austrian media ORF Salzburg, Sony is already working to convert its European disc factory for PlayStationlocated in Thalgau (Salzburg, Austria), in an optical microlens factory.
