Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram simultaneously encountered problems

“From about 8:30 p.m., I was texting my partner via Messenger and got no response even though I was in the middle of an important conversation. After more than 30 minutes, I was anxious to call, but the other party said they didn’t receive the message,” said Ms. Bich Diep, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City.

Downdetector, a tool specializing in monitoring problems of popular Internet platforms, recorded a sudden increase in Facebook error reports with 1,000 times, and Messenger with more than 1,200 times from around 8:15 p.m. Instagram had the most problems, with 4,000 reactions. According to Mr. Mai Thanh Phu, who specializes in providing services related to social networks in Ho Chi Minh City, the error has the biggest impact on fanpages. “Even though it took place at night, this is the time when many online businesses are processing messages and closing orders, so the incident caused many difficulties in customer care and directly impacted revenue,” he said.

Meta has not yet officially announced the cause and scope of the problem.

This is the second time within a week that Meta has had problems with its platforms, when on July 19, Messenger and Facebook were also inaccessible. In June, Facebook, Messenger and Instagram also went offline for about an hour, making it difficult for many people to log in, load feeds or send messages. According to Downdetector, tens of thousands of error reports were recorded globally before services were gradually restored. Meta later confirmed that it had fixed the problem but did not disclose the specific cause.
