E4 Computer Engineering will build the European supercomputer MeluXina-AI

The European Union is strengthening its digital infrastructures in artificial intelligence and data science by entrusting the Italian company E4 Computer Engineering with the creation of MeluXina-AI, the new supercomputer destined for the Luxembourg AI Factory and operationally managed by LuxProvide. The project, financed with an overall budget of 50% by EuroHPC JU through the Digital Europe Program and the remainder by Luxembourg funds, envisages an installation distributed across a dual-site structure between Bissen and Bettembourg starting from autumn 2026.

The hardware architecture is based on Dell Technologies servers equipped with liquid-cooled NVIDIA GB200 NVL4 systems and equipped with Blackwell architecture, distributed across 252 nodes for a total of 1,008 GPUs, capable of expressing an estimated computing power exceeding 20 peak Exaflops. The distinctive element of the system lies in the software infrastructure, designed to enable a multi-user GPU-as-a-Service model with container-native isolation and dynamic workload scheduling, integrating proprietary Urania and ExaMon solutions for governance and observability.

Active from April 2025, the Luxembourg AI Factory is a hub for AI innovation in Europe, with a focus on finance, space, cybersecurity and the green economy. The system will also guarantee secure operations and connectivity with external data platforms and other European AI Factories, consolidating continental technological sovereignty in key sectors such as finance, cybersecurity, the green economy and space research.
