In 2025, 1.89 million new passenger cars with exclusively electric drive (on batteries) were registered in the European Union, which represents a strong recovery and growth of 29.7% compared to 2024. This increase comes after a decline in 2024, when the number of new registrations fell by 6.0% compared to 2023 (1.46 million cars).
The total number of all-electric passenger cars in 2025 reached 7.59 million, which is an increase of 31.5% compared to the 2024 fleet of 5.77 million.
Plug-in hybrids also saw significant growth, with new registrations increasing by 34.2% compared to 2024, reaching a total of 1.03 million new registrations in 2025. In contrast, the number of new registrations of non-plug-in hybrids grew much more slowly, by 13.4%, but the total number of new registrations of these vehicles reached 3.62 million, which is more than any other type of new car.
