Restaurants and holidays: digital platforms guide Italians’ choices

According to a survey conducted by TheFork, a leading provider of digital restaurant reservations and restaurant management software, TheFork Manager, over ninety percent of travelers consider the quality of their food experience to be a key factor in the success of their stay. In a scenario where eighty-one percent of respondents plan to travel for vacation, primarily to seaside resorts in Sicily, Sardinia, Puglia, and Calabria, or to the mountainous regions of the Dolomites and Trentino-Alto Adige, digital geolocation and search technologies are guiding users in selecting local restaurants.

The data indicates that seventy-five percent of consumers use these tools primarily to identify typical local cuisine, giving less importance to scenic features such as the presence of terraces or the fame of the chef. “Vacations are the time of year when restaurants become an integral part of the travel experience. Italians are increasingly seeking authenticity, local cuisine, and restaurants that showcase a destination through their dishes. The analysis of consumer behavior also shows stability in frequency and spending management: approximately ninety percent of the sample stated they intend to maintain or increase restaurant visits compared to the previous year, despite an overall budget remaining unchanged for seventy-four percent of users. Flexibility in meal planning, with fifty-three percent of holidaymakers alternating traditional restaurants with quicker options or street food, is reflected in the use of dynamic booking management applications, allowing operators to optimize seat occupancy and intercept tourist information flows in real time.
