OpenAI has reduced the price of GPT-5.6 Luna by 80 percent and GPT-5.6 Terra by 20 percent, just twenty days after the launch of its new family of models, in order to boost cost efficiency and speed.
OpenAI launched GPT-5.6 on July 9 with three models: GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.6 Luna, each with a different objective. The first is the flagship model dedicated to the most complex tasks, while the Terra focuses on daily tasks and the Luna is positioned as the affordable and fast model.
The technology company has used its account on percent, starting this Thursday.
We are committed to pushing the model frontier across cost efficiency, capability, and speed.
Starting today, we are reducing prices for GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% and GPT-5.6 Terra by 20% , and offering a faster option for GPT-5.6 Sol in the API.

Although it has not touched the price of GPT-5.6 Sol, its frontier model, which competes directly against Anthropic’s Claude Fable, now offers a faster option in the API for advanced users, developers and organizations.
In fact, OpenAI has responded to the post in standard processing at double the price.
This change in rates has an impact on the credit or time limit of users or organizations so that they can take better advantage of both models. Likewise, it has been announced only twenty days after the launch of the three models, at a time of maximum competitive tension in the sector.
An example of this is the recent launch of the Kimi K3 on the market, an open weights model from the Chinese startup Moonshot AI that has caused the United States to warn Chinese laboratories of possible sanctions.
