Apple is thinking of a wearable without a screen

Apple is reportedly evaluating the introduction of a wearable device without a screen, a hypothesis that marks a possible discontinuity with the approach followed so far by Apple Watch. The news comes from a report by analyst Mark Gurman on Bloomberg, according to which the company is exploring different directions to renew its wearable offering in view of the September events.

The context is not coincidental. In recent years, fitness bands without displays have carved out a growing space for themselves on the market: Whoop has demonstrated that a large audience is willing to give up the screen in exchange for a lighter, more discreet device dedicated entirely to biometric monitoring. Products such as Fitbit Air, Polar Loop and Helio Strap move in the same direction, aiming for longer-lasting batteries and less invasive use compared to traditional smartwatches. That Apple is looking with interest at this segment is not surprising, considering how much the category has grown.

According to Gurman, however, the hypothesis of the model without a screen is only one of the avenues being studied. The company would also be evaluating variants with different types of screens and different sizes compared to the current models, even including the possibility, remote according to the journalist, of a circular dial, an option that would break with the square aesthetic that has distinguished Apple Watch since its debut. None of this, it should be underlined, has yet been decided.
