According to Bloomberg, Descartes’ technology may fit into Anthropic’s efforts to increase the efficiency of its computing infrastructure and deal with the growing demand for AI models. Among other things, Descartes develops software that makes it possible to use chips more efficiently and reduce the costs of training and running models, alongside “world models” that simulate the physical world and enable the creation of real-time video.

If the deal is completed, Descartes employees are expected to join the Entropic division that deals with performance and running models. For Anthropic, which is preparing according to estimates for a future IPO and invests large sums in computing infrastructure, the purchase of Descartes could provide both technology and a team with expertise in the field of AI optimization.

Let’s recall that the report comes a few days after it was announced in Israel that Descartes is in talks for sale at a value of 5-7 billion dollars. It was reported in Calcalist that the possible buyer is Elon Musk’s SpaceX, after previous talks with Nvidia failed. Musk himself called the report about SpaceX “fake news”. Now the new report points to Anthropic as the potential buyer.
