Vietnam is about to have a new mobile number

The Department of Telecommunications is selecting an organization specializing in asset auctions to conduct the auction of mobile network code H2H 75. H2H stands for “human to human”, referring to communication services between people, while “mobile network code” is used to identify the network operator in the telecommunications system.

In Vietnam, code 75 corresponds to the prefix 075. This used to be the landline telephone area code of Ben Tre. After the 2017 planning round, the province’s fixed area code changed from 075 to 0275, freeing up code 75 for other purposes.

The right to use the code is provided by the Ministry of Science and Technology with a starting price of 2.5 billion VND. The auction is expected to be conducted online, using the bidding method, but the specific date has not been determined.

This is not the first time a mobile network code has been auctioned this year. In July, the Department of Telecommunications also successfully auctioned the number 095, once associated with the SFone network. Viettel won the auction with 252.5 billion VND, 100 times higher than the starting price.

The Department’s representative said that the auction of the right to use mobile network codes is of great significance, aiming to effectively exploit the telecommunications number warehouse to meet the needs of businesses and people. This activity also helps increase revenue for the state budget.
