The handover is now formalized: the page dedicated to leadership on the Apple website now lists Ternus as CEO, while Cook appears in the board of directors section with the new role of executive president. A transition that was approved unanimously by the board and which comes at the end of a succession planning process that has been ongoing for some time.
Ternus, who has led Apple’s hardware engineering for years, should give the company a more product-oriented line compared to the more operational approach that characterized Cook’s management. However, these are changes that take time to manifest themselves concretely, and the first real public test for the new CEO will be the autumn event on September 9, when he will present the new range of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra.
On the board of directors front, Apple has taken the opportunity of the change to also update the graphics of the page: if until now the members of the board appeared only by name, now the section also includes their respective profile photos, including a new shot of Cook himself. The board, with the entry of Ternus as CEO, is now composed of Tim Cook, Arthur Levinson, Wanda Austin, Alex Gorsky, Andrea Jung, Monica Lozano, Ron Sugar, Sue Wagner and John Ternus himself.
