GTA 6 will have no microtransactions or generative artificial intelligence

Andy Cortez, journalist for Kinda Funny, said he asked Rockstar directly if players will be able to purchase content with real money once it is released on the market. The response received was clear: no form of monetization will be present in the title. The journalist then asked an equally direct question about the possible use of generative artificial intelligence in the development of the game, receiving an equally categorical response from the team.

The topic of generative AI has become a slippery slope for the industry in recent months. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 missed out on an award at the Indie Game Awards after the discovery of artificially generated textures, while the publisher of Arc Raiders had to publicly defend the use of these tools during development. In this context, Rockstar’s position represents a choice of field that is unlikely to go unnoticed among the millions of players who have been waiting for thirteen years for a new chapter in the saga.

On the microtransactions front, however, the situation deserves some clarification. Rockstar excludes any in-game purchase mechanism with real money, but this does not mean that all content will be accessible to anyone who purchases the game. The Ultimate Edition, sold for 99 euros compared to 79 for the standard version, includes a series of exclusive contents: cosmetic packages, vehicles, weapons and even access to some shops within the game world, such as the Electric Fang tattoo artist and the Stock 305 clothing store. An official Rockstar support page has clarified that those who already own the standard version will still be able to purchase the upgrade to the Ultimate Edition separately, with bonus content distributed throughout the entire story of Jason and Lucia.
