La Jornada: Microsoft publishes code of conduct to develop “humanistic AI”

Microsoft’s artificial intelligence division yesterday published a code of conduct regulating the behavior of its AI models, amid growing fears about the dangers of this technology. It is the only one of the major AI developers that has issued a standard in this regard.

The document is built around what Microsoft calls “humanistic AI,” systems designed to remain firmly under human control rather than acting on their own.

The guiding idea, according to the company, is that “people matter more than AI.”

Microsoft partly linked the timing of the release to security concerns, citing recent anti-virus campaigns. hacking large-scale coordinated actions carried out with the help of AI agents as a signal that the industry cannot afford delays.

The code will be applied to Microsoft’s internal MAI models, which the company has presented as an alternative to the Open-AI technology it has used for years.

King Charles III will receive representatives from the main artificial intelligence companies at a meeting in Scotland, with the aim of exploring how artificial intelligence can benefit society.

Sources close to the meeting, whose date has not yet been announced, indicated that Google DeepMind will be represented by its director Demis Hassabis, and OpenAI by the company’s financial director, Sarah Friar. Representatives from Nvidia and Anthropic are also expected to attend.

In turn, the director of the French defense and technology group Thales urged governments to assume their responsibilities in regulating artificial intelligence, while several leaders in the sector sound the alarm at its rapid rise.

“There are means, from a technical point of view, to keep this type of technology under control, but it is not enough,” said the company’s CEO, Patrice Caine, during a group technology conference in London.

The head of China’s intelligence services, Chen Yixin, warned that artificial intelligence endangers the country’s national security, as foreign powers could use it to threaten social order.

“Hostile forces” are abusing generative artificial intelligence technologies to “fabricate political rumors and spread damaging information,” the minister wrote in an article.
