Microsoft WordPad will be removed from Windows 11 starting with version 24H2

Microsoft has announced that it will remove its WordPad text tool from the next version of its Windows 11 operating system, 24H2, as well as from the Windows Server 2025 server platform.

WordPad is a basic word processor – with options to choose from such as font or the ability to justify text – that arrived in 1995 and is included in many of the versions of Microsoft Windows.

The company announced the end of this service in September, at which time it advised the use of memo pad for plain text documents, as well as Microsoft Word, for rich text documents .doc and .rtf.

Microsoft has now updated this support document stating that WordPad will be removed from all Windows editions starting with Windows 11, with version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025.

It is worth remembering that the company announced a month ago that the next operating system update will be the one mentioned and not Windows 12, which means that it will not yet provide the jump to this namedespite what firms like Qualcomm had already suggested.
