Samsung does not forget about Bixby in the era of generative AI

Samsung continues to work on its digital assistant Bixby, which it plans to provide with new functions powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) that will help it redefine its role in the company’s ecosystem.

The technology company introduced Bixby in 2017 along with the Galaxy S8 to help the user get the most out of their smartphone. It currently covers the entire Samsung intelligence ecosystem.

The presentation of the Galaxy S24, which integrates the Google Gemini Nano large language model, also unveiled a new batch of functions powered by generative AI, such as the Rodea search tool, the Photo Assistant, the Translation in real time and Notes Assistant, which have not yet been extended to Bixby.

Samsung, however, still has plans for its assistant, as confirmed by executive vice president of the device business, Won-joon Choi, in an interview with CNBC, who pointed out that generative AI and large language models have led to the company to “redefine the role of Bixby.”

This means that Bixby “could be equipped with generative AI and become smarter in the future” with a view to offering “a more natural conversation and to create an interface that is compatible with Samsung products in our ecosystem,” he added. the manager.
