Meta asks Quest users for their date of birth to adapt the account type to their age

Meta is asking users of its Quest virtual reality ecosystem for their date of birth to adapt the account type and settings to their age and prevent them from being blocked.

Meta Quest users will receive a notification to re-enter their date of birth, a piece of information that will not be publicly visible but will help the technology company determine their age.

This is a mandatory procedure, for which Meta allows 30 days from receipt of the notification to complete, since if the date of birth is not entered, the account will be blocked, as reported on its official blog.

The use of the account will also be restricted if the date does not match the one initially entered. In this case, the user must provide an official identification document to verify the correct age.

The company seeks to adapt the privacy and security settings to the age of the users, who will be able to use one of the three available modalities: the account for adults (over 18 years old), the account for teenagers (between 13 and 17 years old) and the account for preteens (between 10 and 12 years old).

The accounts of minors, in addition to having greater restrictions, especially those of preteens, also have a series of parental control tools associated with them that limit, for example, communication with other users or the games and applications that are used and they download.
