Vietnam is building a national entrepreneurship index report for the first time

The National Startup Index Report provides a comprehensive picture of the startup ecosystem, analyzing the development trends of startups – a new type of business based on science and technology.

Ceremony to announce the National Startup Promotion Index Framework Report and launch the Startup Research Institute, held on the afternoon of April 17. The report was developed by the Institute for Entrepreneurship Research, part of the National Startup Association, and published for the first time this year.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen An Thinh, Deputy Director of the Institute for Startup Research, said that the report will be published annually, determining the comparative advantages of Vietnam’s startup ecosystem compared to other countries in the region. and the world.

The report also analyzes the development trends of the startup ecosystem, potential startup industries and fields that will thrive in the future. In addition to attracting investment for startups, the report contributes to building a knowledge and innovation economy, enhancing competitiveness, and encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit among young people.

The index report consists of 5 parts, which analyze reform and start-up trends in the world in 2024 and a set of national start-up criteria. Localities, industries and fields of the year along with startup faces are also introduced.

Mr. Thinh added that the report identifies 12 standards, divided into criteria for examining and calculating the startup index, under the advice of the Association and national branches monitoring global startups, the Institute independent research, universities and experts from the US, UK, and Korea.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh said that to escape the middle-income trap, Vietnam chooses the direction of adjusting the growth model based on science, technology and innovation. “The main factor to achieve this goal is businesses. Vietnamese businesses have become the driving force in applying science and technology and socio-economic development,” he said.

But he said, the 4.0 technological revolution with technology and innovation will create unprecedented problems. New business models and new technologies are applied extremely quickly. He cited that previously it was difficult to imagine that GPT chat could write a master’s thesis within an hour or apply AI… this puts the responsibility on Vietnamese businesses to apply science and apply it. utilize the fastest technological advances.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh said that the Ministry of Science and Technology, as the focal point for state management of innovation, focuses on supporting scientists, research institutes, and businesses. The Ministry will continue to support start-up businesses in building standards for goods, determining competitiveness or tools to determine intellectual property and ownership value. In addition, the Technology Innovation Fund also supports businesses in accessing capital, technology, and information for production and business.

He assessed that “the establishment of the Startup Research Institute is the right direction, contributing to supporting the force of innovative startups based on science and technology”.
