Google will clarify in the new Terms of Service that it will not claim original content generated with its AI

Google will update its Terms of Service on May 22 to clarify the options users have in the event of a conflict and, above all, the way they treat ownership of original content generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

On May 22, Google’s Terms of Service will be updated with the intention of informing users what they can expect from this technology company and from its users in the use of its digital services and products.

As this is an update primarily intended to clarify its policies, Google clarifies that it will not affect the way in which the services are used, and that is why it has begun to notify users of the changes via email.

One of the changes seeks to clarify the ownership of content created by generative AI. In the ‘your content’ section, the company clarifies that it will not claim “ownership of the original content” generated by its services, including generative AI.

It also addresses the responsibilities of each party in the event of a dispute for violating the terms of use. Google details that not only can it suspend or cancel access to them, but “they may include other remedies in accordance with applicable law.” Also that in case of disputes with the company, users will be able to describe the discrepancies and address them.

Likewise, Google has added a section dedicated to abuse by users of the services offered by the company. Because “a small number of people” have not followed the rules, it now provides “more examples and details about inappropriate use and interference with services that are not permitted.”
