WhatsApp extends login with 'passkeys' to iOS devices

WhatsApp has added the possibility of log in with ‘passkeys’ or access keys on iOS devices, so that users can access their account easily and securely through systems such as facial recognition or ‘Touch ID’ or with a PIN.

The instant messaging social network, owned by Meta, already implemented login with ‘passkeys’ for Android devices in October of last year, allowing users to use their face, fingerprint or a PIN to log into their account.

Now, WhatsApp has added login with ‘passkeys’ also for iOS deviceswhich users can activate from the account settings, in the Passwords section.

The ‘passkeys’ are a login method in which the use of a password is not required, but instead, users must authenticate the login through some biometric method available on the device. Likewise, you can also use an unlock code or pattern on the smartphone.

As the platform explained in a statement, once password login is activated, iOS users will be able to choose to log in again. using ‘FaceID’, ‘Touch ID’ or your password, without having to use a one-time password via SMS.

Likewise, as the company has stressed, this verification system will add security for user accounts and will help prevent potential attacks from malicious actors, in which they attempt to take over accounts by tricking users into sharing their SMS password.
