Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is about to visit Laos

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is about to visit Laos and co-chair the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam – Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s Laos business trip will take place on January 9-10, at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, according to today’s announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962. In February 2019, the two sides agreed to raise the level from “traditional friendship” to “great friendship”.

The two countries actively implement agreements and cooperation plans in the field of defense and security, coordinate immigration management, migration and illegal residence issues; destroy and suppress all types of cross-border crimes, especially drug crimes and human trafficking. Vietnam – Laos are studying to sign an extradition agreement between the two countries.

Vietnam currently has 241 investment projects in Laos with a total registered capital of more than 5.5 billion USD, continuing to maintain the third position among countries and territories investing in this country. Vietnam – Laos trade turnover in the first 10 months of 2024 reached 1.7 billion USD, an increase of 28.2% over the same period in 2023. There are currently about 14,050 Lao students studying at more than 170 Vietnamese educational institutions .
