A killer whale in captivity “attempted suicide,” environmentalists say

A killer whale named Morgan allegedly attempted suicide by exiting the pool in which it is in captivity at Loro Parque in the Canary Islands. Some animal rights activists claim that it was a suicide attempt. A video, published by ‘The Sun’, shows the animal standing out of the water, lying by the pool. The park managers have rejected the thesis of the attempted suicide as an “exaggeration”. “This is absolutely normal behavior,” they added. Killer whales that stay out of the water for too long are crushed by their own weight and die. In another video, reports the British tabloid, the orca is seen repeatedly banging its head against a metal gate. In this case it was assumed that the animal was trying to escape rather than harm itself.
