War in Ukraine: kyiv deploys the “RIKO”, a land drone capable of transporting 400 kg in extreme conditions

A drone ready to operate on any terrain. The Ukrainian company IMLA has unveiled the RIKO, a ground drone specifically designed to operate in the most hostile environments. This versatile robotic platform is intended to revolutionize military logistics, medical evacuation and material delivery in difficult terrain, as the company clarified to Militarnyi.

With a weight of 260 kg, the RIKO is capable of carrying a payload of up to 400 kg, and has even demonstrated the ability to lift up to 600 kg during testing. In addition to its robustness, its four electric motors offer it great mobility and the ability to reach a speed of 20 km/h, for a range of 40 km.

Thanks to its high ground clearance (220-380 mm) combined with low-pressure wheels with a diameter of 66 cm, the RIKO is able to cross off-road areas, swamps and other natural obstacles without difficulty.

This new ground drone is equipped with two quick-release lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 11 kWh that can be replaced in just a few minutes by one person and without tools. “A hybrid version equipped with a 2.5 kW generator is planned, which will remove range limitations,” IMLA said.

Standalone or controlled with controllers

At the cutting edge of technology, communication and control are provided by two independent communication channels ensuring reliable connectivity: TBS Diversity and Starlink. Three cameras and two GPS modules also provide the operator with full situational awareness.

The RIKO can be flown manually using RadioMaster or Steam Deck controllers, but it can also follow pre-programmed routes and operate autonomously.

It is offered in several configurations: “logistics”, “transporter” and “hybrid”. “All design elements can be adapted to specific tasks directly in the field,” the company says.

According to Andriy Biletsky, commander of the 3rd Army Corps, this type of ground robot could potentially replace a third of Ukraine’s infantry, marking a crucial step in the modernization and efficiency of the armed forces.
