US President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social that Washington is conducting “serious negotiations” with what he called the “new and smarter government” of Iran to end hostilities.
Trump said negotiations were progressing well, but he warned that if a deal was not reached soon and the Strait of Hormuz was not “immediately opened to navigation,” the United States would strike all power plants, oil wells, Kharg Island and possibly Iran’s desalination facilities, which he said the U.S. had “intentionally left alone for now.”
Trump has characterized the possible strikes as retaliation for the deaths of U.S. troops and other civilians, which he blames on the Iranian regime for its 47-year “reign of terror.”
