The Iranian armed forces declared this Sunday morning that they had shot down three United States military aircraft involved in the rescue operation of the American aviator whose plane crashed in Iran on Friday.
“Enemy aircraft that entered southern Isfahan – including two Black Hawk helicopters and a C-130 military transport plane – were struck and are now in flames,” said Joint Command Khatam Al-Anbiya, adding that the American rescue operation had “failed”.
State media broadcast images of charred debris scattered across a desert area, from which smoke was still billowing.
The Tasnim news agency, for its part, reported that strikes carried out during the rescue operation had left five people dead in southwest Iran, without specifying whether they were civilians or soldiers.
Earlier in the morning on Sunday, Donald Trump announced that this officer had been rescued “safe and sound” during a military operation.
