The record broken by the astronauts in space: the manned flight that flew the farthest from Earth

The “Artemis 2” astronaut team broke the record for the greatest distance that humans have traveled from Earth. This, after the previous record was broken in 1970 by the “Apollo 13” mission team.

The Apollo 13 record was 248,655 miles from Earth, which is approximately 400,170 km from Earth. The record was broken by the crew of the Artemis 2 spacecraft at 1:56 p.m. EST, and at 8:56 p.m. Israel time.

The crew on “Artemis 2” is expected to reach approximately 252,760 miles from the Earth, which is also approximately 406,789 km from the Earth. That is, the four astronauts on the mission will travel a distance that is about 7,000 km greater than the one traveled by the crew on the “Apollo 13” mission.

The Orion spacecraft, where the astronauts are staying, is expected to reach its greatest distance from Earth at 2:07 in the morning, and at 19:07 Eastern time.

The American space agency (NASA) sent four astronauts to the moon about 5 days ago as part of the “Artemis 2” mission.
