Vance says there are “clear guidelines” for negotiating with Iran and hopes for “positive” talks in Islamabad

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, assured this Friday that there are “clear guidelines” from the American President, Donald Trump, to negotiate with Iran, predicting that he expects “positive” talks in Pakistan, a country that will host this Saturday the first negotiations for the cessation of hostilities after a temporary two-week truce.

“We look forward to the negotiations. I think they will be positive, although, of course, we will see. As the president of the United States has said, if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we are willing to reach out to them,” he said in statements prior to boarding the Air Force Two plane to travel to Pakistan.

In any case, Vance has stressed that if the Tehran delegation tries to “deceive” Washington, “it will realize that the negotiating team will not be so receptive.”

“We are going to try to make the negotiation positive. The president has given us quite clear guidelines,” indicated the US vice president.

Vance heads the American delegation in Pakistan to hold talks that seek to end the conflict that broke out more than a month ago with the American and Israeli offensive against Iran, which frustrated the indirect negotiations facilitated until then by Oman for a nuclear agreement that would put an end to the differences between Washington and Tehran.

For his part, Trump has also been optimistic, stating that Iranian leaders “speak very differently in meetings than they do before the press” and “are much more reasonable,” after indicating that Iranian leaders “are accepting everything they have to accept.”
