Ambulance driver suspected of killing patients charged in Italy

In Italy, charges have been brought against 27-year-old Luca Spada from the Emilia-Romagna city of Forli. An ambulance driver is suspected of killing at least six elderly people. According to the case file, he gave them intravenous injections of air.

The investigation was launched when police noticed a high mortality rate among elderly patients he was transporting. His phone was tapped, which revealed that he called himself the “angel of death” and admitted that killing brought him pleasure.

“These unfortunate people have suffered enough. They have earned the right to appear before the creator,” he told one of his interlocutors.

Spada was arrested on suspicion of murdering 85-year-old Deanna Mambelli. On November 25, 2025, he took her from the nursing home for a routine check-up at the hospital. The journey took only a few minutes, but she did not survive it. An autopsy revealed that she died of a heart attack caused by air entering a vein.
