At least three oil tankers crossed the Strait of Hormuz this Tuesday, first full day of blockade imposed by the United States against ships calling at Iranian ports, according to data from several ship monitoring platforms.
Both the Rich Starry ship and its owner, the Chinese company Shanghai Xuanrun Shipping Co Ltd, are sanctioned by Washington for their business with Iran, according to information published on the website of the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
The president of the United States, Donald Trump threatened this past Monday to “immediately eliminate” any Iranian ship that skips the blockade that the US military has begun in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The blockade will be applied impartially against ships of all nations entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman,” the United States Central Command (Centcom) specified in a message in X to explain the operation.
