Champions League: Zero number is enough: Arsenal are in the semi-finals again

Arsenal FC are in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second time in a row. After the 1-0 draw in Portugal, a 0-0 draw in the quarter-final second leg against Sporting Lisbon was enough for the Premier League leaders to move back into the top four. The team led by national player Kai Havertz is up against Atlético Madrid, who prevailed against FC Barcelona.

Arsenal, who suddenly have to worry about the fourteenth championship in the club’s history after a defeat against AFC Bournemouth, tried to secure themselves early with a goal of their own. Eberechi Eze was particularly convincing as a constant source of trouble, but no really compelling chances emerged.

After ten minutes there was relief for the guests for the first time, which immediately caused danger when Geny Catamo went down theatrically in the Gunners’ penalty area. Former Leverkusen player Piero Hincapie hit the Sporting striker in the foot. But the French referee Francois Letexier immediately decided against a penalty and video referee Bastian Dankert from Germany also reported no objections.

A direct duel for the top of the league awaits

As a result, the game became rougher and duels dominated the picture. Shortly before the break it was Catamo again who only hit the left post with their greatest opportunity to date (43′). The game remained open in the second half, with both teams scoring. In the 56th minute, as in the first leg, Havertz came into the game, but this time the joker didn’t score. Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard hit the post in the exciting final phase (84′).

The semi-final first leg will take place on April 29th in Madrid, and a week later Arsenal will play again at the Emirates Stadium for a place in the final, which should be followed by winning the pot for the first time. The key game in the Premier League against Manchester City is already on Sunday.
