Iran stated this Wednesday that he will return to the table negotiation with the United States when the “necessary and reasonable conditions”and assured that the country is prepared to defend itself in case of new attacks.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bagaeito the question of whether Tehran will meet again with the United States to negotiate an end to the war after the uncertainty of recent days about a meeting today in Pakistan that did not take place.
The diplomat stated that we will act “when we come to the conclusion that there are necessary and reasonable conditions“, but he did not explain what those conditions are.
He did emphasize that in any case the negotiations will seek to “materialize national interests and consolidate the achievements of the Iranian people by thwarting the malicious objectives of their enemies.”
Regarding the extension of the indefinite ceasefire announced yesterday by US President Donald Trump, Bagaei said that “the Islamic Republic of Iran was not the one who started this war” and that its actions have been in “legitimate defense against the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime (Israel)“.
Since Trump’s announcement yesterday, no Iranian political authority has spoken and Bagaei’s comments are vague at the moment.
Amid political silence, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced today that seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz for “operating without the necessary permits” and that they have been taken to the coast of Iran, in what amounts to an escalation.
Negotiations between Iran and the United States are stalled after days of uncertainty over whether the delegations led by JD Vance and the Iranian Mohamed Baqer Qalibaf would meet again in Islamabad after the first direct contact on April 11 and 12.
Tehran reiterated this Wednesday that it will not attend new rounds of dialogue as long as the naval blockade of its ports persists, a measure that Washington maintains in force despite the extension of the ceasefire.
Iran, in turn, has practically kept the strategic strait through which 20% of the world’s oil passes, since the start of the war on February 28.
