Montenegro has taken another step closer to EU membership

Montenegro is one more step closer to joining the European Union. The ambassadors of the 27 EU member states decided to create a special working group for the drafting of the membership agreement.

“This is a technical but important step on the way to membership,” said the representative of Cyprus, which currently holds the EU presidency, after the meeting in Brussels.

Podgorica has already completed negotiations on 14 of the 35 thematic “clusters”, covering various areas from tax policy to environmental protection.

“Excellent news is coming from Brussels,” said the Minister of European Affairs of Montenegro, Maida Gorcevic, adding that the creation of the working group “is another confirmation that they are on the right track, so that by 2028, Montenegro will become the 28th member of the European Union.”
