The Italian embassy in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, organized a dialogue on science, innovation and international cooperation with the National University of Mongolia, with an online lecture by the scientist Ersilia Vaudo (European Space Agency) entitled “Space: an endless adventure”. The Italian diplomatic headquarters in Mongolia reported this, adding that the initiative was attended by Undraa Agvaanluvsan, president of the Italy-Mongolia interparliamentary friendship group and nuclear scientist, who shared her study experience at the Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste. The event, which was attended by numerous students, professors and researchers from the National University of Mongolia, also made it possible to remember the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Pakistani scientist Abdus Salam, after whom the Center for Theoretical Physics of Trieste is named.
The initiative is part of Italy’s growing commitment to scientific diplomacy and the promotion of talent, strengthening dialogue with Mongolia in this important area. Space, in particular, represents a promising sector of academic and scientific cooperation between the two countries. Mongolian J. Gurragchaa was the second astronaut in Asia to participate in a space mission, and research programs are conducted from Mongolia in various fields related to the study of space. The Vice Rector of the National University of Mongolia, prof. Baatarchuluun, opened the lecture, together with Ambassador Giovanna Piccarreta, recalling the important contribution made by Italy to science, starting from Galileo Galilei up to the present day and to excellences such as Giorgio Parisi and Rita Levi Montalcini, in honor of whom the Italian research day takes place on 22 April, the date of birth of the Nobel Prize-winning scientist.
The Italian Ambassador recalled the opportunity offered to Mongolian students by the “Invest your Talent in Italy” program, which from 2026 will also be extended to Mongolia, reconfirming Italy’s commitment to promoting the country’s young talents. The deadline to apply is set for May 11th, 6pm Italian time: more information is available at the following link https://investyourtalentapplication.esteri.it/SitoIYT/EN/invest-your-talent-in-italy
