“Stupid question!”: Trump’s anger at a journalist when asked if he would use nuclear weapons against Iran

The North American president flatly rejected the idea and strongly attacked the correspondent of PBS -American public television- in the White House, Liz Landers. “No, we don’t need it. Why would I need it?” Why would such a stupid question be asked?“, said.

The Republican continued his response with more questions: “Why would I use a nuclear weapon, when we have already completely annihilated them in a completely conventional way, without the need for it?”, and stated: “No, I would not use it. No one should ever be allowed to use a nuclear weapon.“.

The exchange occurred during a question session at the White House, following an event in which he highlighted his efforts to lower drug costs. During the event, Trump said his goal is to achieve an Iran “without a nuclear weapon with which to try blow up one of our cities or blow up the entire Middle East“.

On April 7, Trump issued a genocidal threat against Iran, warning that “An entire civilization will die tonight, never to return“.

During the conflict, Vice President JD Vance warned that the United States was prepared to use weapons not previously usedalthough the White House denied that this message referred to nuclear attacks.

Iran denies seeking nuclear weaponsand the UN nuclear watchdog says that, before the outbreak of war, Tehran’s manufacture of an atomic bomb was not imminent.

In that sense, the president of the United States stated that he does not feel any pressure to end the war with Iran, although he warned that “the clock is ticking” for Tehran, with the arrival of a third American aircraft carrier -the USS George HW Bush- to the Middle East.

“You know who’s under pressure? They (Iran) because if they don’t get their oil going, their entire oil infrastructure is going to blow up,” Trump said.

The American leader, who announced on Tuesday a ceasefire in the war until the Iranian government presents a proposal for an agreement, said that he made that decision to give the Islamic Republic time, since who doesn’t know who his leader is since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a bombing on February 28.

“We don’t know who to deal with,” said the president when justifying the slowness of negotiations to reach an agreement with Tehran. He thus pointed to alleged internal divisions in the Tehran regime.

This Thursday, Trump also announced the three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanonwhich could help in negotiations between the US itself and Iran.

“The meeting was a great success! The United States will collaborate with Lebanon to help protect itself from Hezbollah. The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended for three weeks,” the American leader announced on the Truth Social network.

Vice President Vance also participated in the meeting; the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio; and Lebanon’s Israeli ambassadors to the United States, Yechiel Leiter and Nada Hamadeh, respectively.
