The most disgusting thing we heard: A woman was trapped for hours in an open pit toilet at a tourist site in northern Australia after the floor collapsed beneath her while she was using it.
The incident happened at the Meteorite Craters site, about 145 km south of Alice Springs. According to the report, the tourist arrived in the area from Canberra with her husband and two children, and the particularly repulsive incident occurred when she used the “long drop” services that were on site.
“Long drop” toilets are actually a hole dug in the ground without a sewage system. While the woman was standing in the cell, the floor collapsed and she fell to a depth of about 2 meters – and was trapped in the debris up to her waist. Her husband and children went to call for help from the “closest” town, about 53 km from the place.
The woman was rescued only hours later, when a local professional who came to the area noticed the situation. An eyewitness wrote: “She was stuck in waste up to her waist. There is feces, diapers, urine, everything in the hole.”
The same professional dismantled part of the structure with the tools in his vehicle, broke the cell walls and managed to pull her out.
