The European Union will “try to influence the results of the parliamentary elections” with its civil mission in Armenia, stated the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
He added that the new EU mechanism will give Brussels additional leverage to influence Armenian ministries and national institutions.
The European Union this week approved the launch of a new civilian mission in Armenia to help Yerevan combat the hybrid threats of foreign manipulation of electoral processes, cyberattacks and illegal political financing. The mission will start operating in the coming months, will have a two-year mandate and will be called “European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Armenia” (EUPM Armenia).
The Armenian Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision on the mission.
Zakharova expressed hope that the RA authorities will not allow the new EU mission in the country to connect Yerevan to the anti-Russian policy.
