The proposal: the US and Iran will first try to reach an agreement to resolve the crisis around Hormuz • Foreign Minister Araqchi: “There is now no agreement in the Iranian leadership regarding the nuclear issue” • If the naval blockade is reduced as a lever of pressure – it is not clear what will be left to allow significant concessions on the part of Iran
The Pakistani proposal to end the war in Iran: To find a way out of the deadlock in the negotiations in Islamabad, the Pakistani mediators changed direction. According to the new proposal, the Americans and Iranians will discuss opening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the blockade – and the nuclear issue will be postponed.
The Iranian foreign minister landed in Islamabad, his second visit in 48 hours to find a way out of the deadlock in the negotiations. He said that “there is now no agreement in the Iranian leadership regarding the nuclear issue.” And the mediators hope that the opening of the strait and the lifting of the blockade can lead to a long-term ceasefire or even to a stop to the war.
The main issue in which the negotiations are stuck is the nuclear issue, which will be postponed to a later date, according to the Pakistani proposal.
Not sure it will work for Trump who lowered the military pressure lever, he left the naval blockade as the biggest pressure lever right now. If the naval blockade is reduced as a pressure lever – it is not clear what will be left to allow significant concessions on the nuclear issue.
