State visit: King Charles III. remembers the victims of September 11th

The British King Charles III. and Queen Camilla remembered the victims of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 in New York. The royal couple laid a bouquet of flowers at the memorial and met relatives of the victims and first responders. In a message accompanying the flowers, the royals said they would stand by the American people in undiminished solidarity, the PA news agency reported.

During his speech in the US Congress the day before, the king had described 9/11 as a “defining moment for America”. “Your pain and shock have been felt around the world,” the monarch said. “We stood by your side then. And we stand by your side today, in silent remembrance of a day that must never be forgotten.”

The royal couple laid flowers alongside former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. According to NBC, Charles met the current mayor Zohran Mamdani during the subsequent reception at the monument.
