Trump considers withdrawing US troops from Italy and Spain: “Why shouldn’t I?”

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, this Thursday considered a possible withdrawal of US troops stationed in Italy and Spain due to their refusal to help Washington in the framework of the offensive against Iran, launched by surprise together with Israel on February 28.

“Yes, probably. Why shouldn’t I? Italy hasn’t helped us at all and Spain has been horrible, absolutely horrible (…) When we needed them, they weren’t there. We have to remember that,” the tycoon said in statements to the press.

Trump has taken the opportunity to charge against European countries again, remembering that Washington helped them with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “Ukraine has nothing to do with us; we are on the other side of the ocean,” he said, adding that Germany is “doing a terrible job” because, among other issues, “it has immigration” and “energy” problems.

This comes after Trump suggested the possibility of reducing the number of troops stationed in Germany in retaliation for recent comments made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the lack of strategy on the part of the United States in the context of the offensive against Iran.

The tycoon, who accused Merz this Thursday of being “totally useless” when it comes to attempts to put an end to the Russian invasion, has already threatened to reduce the number of American soldiers in the European country during his first term, that is, between 2017 and 2021.
