Job cuts: IAV cuts 1,400 jobs – IG Metall announces protests

The automotive development service provider IAV wants to cut around 1,400 jobs nationwide, especially in Berlin. A spokesman for the company said this in response to a dpa request. The IG Metall union has announced protests against this. According to the company, employees were informed of the plans in the morning. The company premises in Berlin-Charlottenburg are to be sold by 2027 at the latest, but a “compact core” of employees will remain in the capital.

The service provider’s remaining employees will be offered a move to Gifhorn in Lower Saxony. According to IAV, the aim of the job cuts is to reduce excess capacity and adapt the organization to changing market conditions. “The measures are part of the transformation with which IAV wants to secure long-term competitiveness and maintain high-quality engineering jobs in Germany.”

IG Metall criticizes the job cuts

IG Metall Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony criticized the plans as irresponsible. The union will not accept a closure of the Berlin headquarters with 1,250 employees.

The IAV management has no plan or idea to lead the company into a good future. Instead of presenting a strategy for long-term job security, management is taking the ax. “This will meet with massive resistance from IG Metall and the employees.”

The first representative of IG Metall Chemnitz, Eddie Kruppa, pointed out that Stollberg in Saxony was also affected by the dismantling plans. “Our colleagues will oppose this together and in solidarity.” Protests against the job cuts in Berlin have already been announced for the coming week.
