Syria: the EU renews anti-Assad sanctions, but shortens the black list

At the same time, the EU has maintained targeted restrictive measures against individuals and entities linked to the former al-Assad regime, as well as sanctions based on security reasons. The EU believes that networks linked to the previous al-Assad regime “continue to exert influence” and that they put at risk the transition process.

Designated entities are subject to asset freezing and EU citizens and businesses are prohibited from making funds available to them. Individuals are also subject to a travel ban, preventing them from entering or transiting through EU member states.
