I expect a big step forward in reducing the differences in wages for the same work, said Minister Ružić he spoke about the amendments to the Labor Act, which transpose the European Directive on salary transparency into the Croatian legislation. He stated that at the European level, the difference in wages is more than 11 percent in favor of men, while Croatia is better than the European average because here the difference is 6.6 percent.
“We want to achieve that work of equal value is paid equally”, said the minister on the sidelines of the congress of the Association of Healthcare Employers in Vodice.
The amendments to the Labor Law, which are in the final stage of preparation before being submitted to the parliamentary procedure, should introduce greater transparency of wages and the right of workers to information about the criteria for determining wages based on differences between the sexes.
According to previous announcements, employers should in the future publish the salary range in job advertisements, and allow employees to see the criteria according to which salaries and promotions are determined. Larger employers would also have the obligation to report on the differences in wages between men and women for comparable positions.
The deadline for implementing the EU directive on salary transparency is June 7.
