“Israel undermines the prospect of a two-state solution”

“In recent months, the situation in the West Bank has worsened significantly. Settler violence has reached unprecedented levels. The Israeli government’s policies and practices, including further consolidation of Israeli control, are undermining stability and prospects for a two-state solution.”

“International law is clear: Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal. Construction projects in the E1 area would be no exception”, the leaders point out. “The development of the E1 settlement – the note continues – would divide the West Bank in two” and according to the leaders would represent “a serious violation of international law. Businesses should not participate in tenders for construction at E1 or other settlement developments. They should be aware of the legal and reputational consequences of participating in settlement construction, including the risk of being involved in serious violations of international law,” it is underlined.

The leaders who signed the declaration therefore ask the government of Israel “to put an end to the expansion of settlements and administrative powers, ensure accountability for settler violence and investigate allegations against Israeli forces, respect Jerusalem’s custody and historic status quo agreements, and lift financial restrictions on the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian economy.”
