Dagger blades, jewelry and cups: dozens of grave goods found

Müller emphasized that it was the largest burial ground from the early Bronze Age (between 2200 and 2000 BC) that had ever been found in Brandenburg. Graves contained dagger blades, arrowheads, a cup, ceramic vessels and objects that were used as tools or status symbols.

A total of 31 burials were uncovered, including 30 skeletal graves and one cremation. The dead were mostly laid down in a crouching position on the right side of the body, facing south-north, and with their heads in the east, which was typical of the time.

The state office has been examining the areas since 2020, Müller explained. The area was flown over with drones, aerial photographs were taken and a scanner scanned the surface. “We can calculate the vegetation from this data and get an idea of ​​the surface,” explained the archaeologists. The main inspections will begin in 2022.

What happens now with the finds?

The finds are state property. Excavation reports follow and scientific samples are carried out. The items could only be exhibited later. Where is still unclear.
