After eating in a fish restaurant: German tourist (35) dies on Lake Garda

Lazise (Italy) – A German father died after eating in a fish restaurant on Lake Garda. Now the authorities are investigating negligent homicide.

As the Italian newspaper “Corriere del Veneto” reports, Alexander B. (35) from the Main-Tauber district (Baden-Württemberg) was eating in a restaurant in the city on April 26th with his wife, their two small children (two and a half years and a few months old) and his father Holiday region on Lake Garda. The restaurant is located in the picturesque town of Lazise. Father and son ordered fish, the others didn’t. Just a few hours later, the family man and his father complained of severe symptoms, including nausea and vomiting. The family called 911. When the rescue workers arrived, the 35-year-old was already there to. His father survived and his wife and children showed no symptoms.

Did the man die from rotten fish?

Die Public Prosecutor’s Office in Italy now wants to clarify whether there was a direct connection between the food and the death of the man who was considered completely healthy. Food poisoning is suspected. Therefore, the tourist was autopsied at the Borgo Roma Hospital in Verona. The examination of the samples for toxins and bacteria but is apparently not yet completed. It is unclear what the dead man had eaten. His father probably ordered a salmon pizza.

It is being investigated for negligent homicide. The responsible German public prosecutor’s office in Mosbach has already requested access to the investigation files, reports SWR. The tourist’s body has now been transported to Germany and examined again. However, the investigative sovereignty lies with the Italian authorities.
